The most vital things in life include impeccable writing, delicious food and wine, a supportive family, amazing friends and an everlasting love.
"The unreal is more powerful than the real, because nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it. It is only intangible ideas, concepts, beliefs, fantasies that last. Stone crumbles, wood rots, people, well, they die. But things as fragile as a thought, a dream, a legend, they can go on and on." -Chuck Palahniuk

allow me to put my hands in where they don't belong for just a second. I only do this because I liked your story so much. This is how I would have written your story. Everything would have been the same until the protagonist runs back to find her heart. There she finds that her love has decided to walk the other path. Her heart is no longer where she expected it to stay. she then finds herself doubly fucked. She can neither walk away into the future nor reclaim the love she had decided to walk away from. Then, regret would stand to her one side, and confusion on the other. But maybe that's all because I like sad endings.
