Born in Rock Island, Il, I grew up in a creative household with my parents and my older sister leading the way. My sister and I were always encouraged to pursue our artistic talents at home and at school in addition to our other academic studies. I also enjoyed the social sciences and chose to major in psychology at the University of Illinois.
Although I enjoyed studying the mind, I longed to explore it in a more personal way. I decided to continue my studies in biological psychology and also take on creative writing my junior year of college. I literally ran from my biology labs, to the psychology building, to the English building, to finally to the journalism department. Lets just say I had the most liberal undergraduate education a person can experience.
I moved to St. Louis shortly after college ended to pursue a career in writing and research. I started working at Sorkins Business Directories and eventually worked my way up in the company to a position as a research manager for their Kansas City region. I loved my work and learned more about online research than I ever thought possible. Unfortunately the company was forced to downsize. I continued my relationship with the company and made contacts that allowed me to continue as a freelance writer and editor.
While in St. Louis, I also worked for a time at United Cerebral Palsy as an Employment Specialist, helping people with disabilities find jobs. I enjoyed working with my clients immensely and found the work to be very rewarding. However, I missed living close to family and friends and I decided that Illinois was where my heart is. I would like to continue my advocate work by writing articles related to psychological and social issues.
In my freetime I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and my dog Ellie "Moose." My facetious beagle-lab mix is often found right by my side, sleeping on a large blue bed that looks like a plaid danish or baiting me with a ridiculous stuffed hippo while I am working on the computer. I also enjoy painting, hiking, tennis, and traveling whenever possible. My favorite places traveled thus far have been southern Germany and Key West. One fun fact about me is that I recently discovered that my name is a featured character in a Harlequin romance novel. That's quite an alter-ego to live up to.
I am currently a freelance writer and editor working from my private office in Rock Island. I enjoy meeting other professionals and following the latest trends. Although I keep busy with writing and editing, I am always open to working on new projects.
