Fortune favors the late photographer
This shot came about because I was late. Normally if a sunset looks promising and I plan on trying to be at the bridge to take photos of it, I will make sure to be there a good 30 minutes ahead of time just to wander, find a spot, do some reading, you know the usual. Ah, but shame on me, I was late getting out the door so was actually driving across the bridge as the peak colors were hitting. I could tell this was going to happen so I made sure I had my Pentax out and the exposure dialed in as we started the climb up to the bridge so all I had to do while crossing was focus and shoot. I kept the shutter speed about 1/60th or maybe 1/30th to get some blur from the car's forward motion.
Consequently I am not sure if I actually was late or right on time. If I had been earlier, I certainly would have gotten some nice shots from Cathedral Park, but would have missed this one altogether, and I quite like this one. Gosh what a pretty evening. We did manage to make it down to the park in time for me to make two other exposures and I kind of like one of those them. But this shot is how I remember that evening. © Zeb Andrews
