the heel press

I took this picture yesterday on a trip down to Silver Falls State Park in hopes of finding some Fall color.  The colors are just beginning to come out there, so is the rain.  After initially stopping by Upper North Falls, I was completely soaked, so by the time South Falls came along I was drenched from head to toe, with only my camera equipment remaining remotely un-soaked.  It was certainly more than a bit damp, so much so that I had to lay it all out when I got home so my bag and the cameras could air out and dry a bit.  That is one thing I like about shooting film cameras, I am not as worried about getting them more or less drenched, though I admit, loading film in such conditions is tricky.  ;-)  Anyway, I took a couple shots of this falls, hiked down and around behind it to the base not seeing anything else much that caught my eye, and made the short trip down to Lower South Falls before returning here with a single shot left on my roll.  I was not sure if I had caught the blowing clouds of mist coming off the top of the falls in my earlier photos so I set everything else up once again and took this photo, which turned out to be my favorite of the bunch.  

I love Fall and the colors it brings so much I think because of its fleeting nature.  It is similar to waiting, and enjoying a sunset.  And it passes all too quickly.  Fall colors should really be coming into their prime in this park over the next few weeks so I highly encourage anyone interested to make the trip down (or out to the Gorge for that matter too).  And as far as the rain goes... well those are the best Oregon days to be out shooting, no crowds and the best light you could ask for.  Just bring an umbrella for the cameras.  ;-)
