I don't actually see this as a "reflection on jazz." The word 'notes' would be ambiguous if not for the reference to 'handwriting,' which suggests that jazz is a metaphor here, not the speaker's focus. The metaphor seems to connote that jazz's combination of structure and improvisation is reflected in the messages conveyed by the handwriting. I like it very much.
My only criticism would be that Ben Harper isn't a jazz musician, though he, too, can be spontaneous and improvisational especially in his vocalization.

The graphic form structure works at the beginning but fails as the poem progresses.
I am a jazz fan, and a music lover, but the personal part of the poem draws meaning away from its reflection on jazz.
