Long Week

Lax

Monday: Someone asked me for directions to our favorite park. I could barely remember how to get there from Sunset.

Tuesday: Nick caught me staring at a picture of you. I didn’t mean to push his hand away so hard. We got into a fight. I drove to lax and watched the planes and the light towers. Nick was still awake when I got home. He apologized, but I don't know why.

Wednesday: I walked past our old house, its walls disturbingly blank, a "for sale" sign on the uncut lawn. I had the urge to break in and lay on that weak spot on the living room floor, but I kept walking.

Thursday: I sat down to write, but I couldn't think of anything. I used to talk to you when I felt uninspired.

Friday: I bought the last orchid left in the market. They were playing a lyric-less, elevator music version of your favorite song. Even through all the cheesy tenor sax, I recognized the melody.

Saturday: I threw the orchid away. I forgot Nick is allergic to them. Harvey peed on the rug you gave me. He’s such a nervous, excited dog.

Sunday: I went to your grave and pulled out the weeds. Nick came with me and helped. He’s going to be a wonderful father one day but I don’t want to have children and I don’t know how to tell him that. I think I’m a terrible person, dad. I wish had the orchid to give to you now.
