afternoons inside of guitar cases

I used to watch my hands find

small rainbows on the carpet.  I would

lay thin paper across the rainbow

and match up the colors with pencils.

 

eventually I had a collection of rainbows on paper

and they never quite matched up.

I have spent this time

 

perfectly curled into butterfly chairs,

in dresses

too short

to be a model

but maybe if I was shaped more like

 

A guitar case, things would work out

and I’d have velvety insides, too
