So a friend of mine and I decided to start this book club up where we work in the Seirra's, and a lot of people joined and it was looking like a really good idea, but for some reason the first book we all read was Audrey Niffenegger's the Time Traveler's Wife, and it was such a horrible book, that our little book club thing got hurt real bad from it. What was surprising about it was how many amazing reviews it got. I also found out that the author was getting advances on her work before it was even published, which is crazy because that was her first book. Another thing that also struck me as odd was the fact that it had also been bought for movie rights before it was published as well. Weird.

I actually really enjoyed reading that book! I thought it was creative and well-written and it was an interesting way to use science fiction to narrate an unusual love story. To each one his own, right? :)

Yes yes. I liked it in the begining, but I guess I started to loose interest in it as I porgressed. I guess I was just expecting a lot lot more out of it? Would you read her next book if she writes one? She did an awesome job with the Chicago setting, that was cool.

Yeah, I can see that. I guess you'd have to be somewhat invested in the characters to want to continue reading. Curiosity got the better of me (as it usually does). I'd definitely be interested in seeing what she comes up with next. Though it seems sometimes writers just write one great novel and then stop (To Kill A Mockingbird) or if they do follow up with a second ...  one wishes they hadn't lol.

Very good points. I will definately check out the movie though, lol, maybe it will be awesome?

the book really didn't bring it home for me either, not a very good page turner! but i think the author intentionally wrote it that way to taylor to a specific more mature crowd, no offense!

i read the book quite a while ago.  i remember i picked it up while visiting someone...and i got really into it and ended up borrowing it.  i dont remember exactly why i liked it, but i guess i did, because i read the whole thing (something unusual for me...im generally very picky).  maybe it was tailored more to females?  if i remember correctly, it was quite a love story.
