It had been on my list for a long time, but I just finished watching Amores Perros, the powerful film that connects three different stories through a single gruesome car accident in Mexico.  Gael Garcia Bernal’s performance is amazing, especially for taking place so early in his film career, and director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu skillfully chronicles three disturbing, yet eerily realistic portrayals of love.

PETA members beware – there are some serious dog fight scenes that aren’t for the faint of heart.

Has anyone here seen it?

yeah

 great fucking movie

however, i wasn't the biggest fan of the actress with the fucked up leg story.  i just found that one to be a little slow.

but, yeah, great movie by the guy that did 21 Grams and Babel.

Question: do you think that the truck in Amores Perros is the same one benicio del toro drives in 21 Grams?  just a thought...

in the spirit of Mexican directors, I just watched Y Tu Mama Tambien for the first time. It has become one of my favorites.  The dialogue is spot on and very impressive.  I think one of the best scenes in the movie is when we discover what the "Y tu Mama Tambien" is referring to.

it's interesting to see what happened to the actors after Y Tu Mama Tambien.

Gael Garcia Bernal has done some great films and Diego Luna seemed to make some poor choices.  i've always thought there was a similarity between their separate directions after this film and the directions of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck directions after Good Will Hunting.

I love dogs. So this film kind of spat on my soul. But I think that's what I liked so much about it. It wasn't afraid to push the edge and show that some pretty gruesome things happen in life, and we need to either work around them or live through them.
